New Garage Door Installation & Replacement in Perth

Whether you are replacing a door that has reached the end of its life, upgrading a manual door to an automatic one, or building from scratch, the install is the part that decides how the door behaves for the next twenty years. Cannington Garage Door measures your opening properly — headroom, side room, backroom and the state of the timber jambs — and specifies a door that actually suits the structure, the street and the way you use the garage. We install roller, sectional and tilt doors from the major Australian brands, size and fit the spring system to the finished weight of your specific door rather than to a generic table, and set the motor up to the door rather than to the factory default. A new door is also the most visible single change you can make to a Perth street frontage, so we treat the finish and the fit as part of the job, not as a detail.

  • Proper measure-up: headroom, side room, backroom and jamb condition checked before anything is quoted
  • Springs sized to your finished door weight, not to a generic table
  • Roller, sectional and tilt from the major Australian brands
  • Coastal specification where the address genuinely warrants it — not upsold inland
  • Old door removed and disposed of as part of the job, not left in your driveway

How it works

What to expect when you call

1

On-site measure and free estimate

We measure the opening and check headroom, side room and backroom, inspect the jambs and lintel, and talk through how you actually use the garage. You get a free written estimate with the real options, not one take-it-or-leave-it number.

2

Choose the door

Style, material, colour and insulation, matched to the house, the aspect and the exposure. We bring the range to you and say honestly where spending more pays off in Perth conditions and where it does not.

3

Install day

We remove and dispose of the old door, repair or replace jambs where needed, fit the new door and its guides or track, fit and tension the spring system to the door's finished weight, and install and program the motor.

4

Balance, test and show you

The door is balanced so it holds anywhere in its travel, the motor's limits and force are set to the door, the auto-reverse is tested, and we walk you through the remotes, the manual release and the maintenance before we go.

Installation & Replacement FAQs

How long does a new garage door installation take?

A straight replacement into a sound opening is usually a half-day job. Add time if the jambs need repair, if you are converting from a manual door to an automatic one, or if the opening needs work. We give you a realistic window at the estimate, and if we find rot in the jambs on the day we show you before we proceed rather than after.

Do I need council approval or a registered builder to replace a garage door in WA?

For a like-for-like replacement on an existing garage, in almost all cases no. Building and Energy's registration requirement applies to building work at a value threshold that routine door replacement does not approach, and since 1 July 2026 the threshold for Class 10a structures — private garages, sheds and carports — is higher again. Changing the size of the opening, or building a new garage, is a different question and may need a building permit. If your property is in a heritage precinct, what the door may look like from the street can be regulated, and that is worth checking with your local government first.

Roller or sectional — which should I choose?

Headroom usually decides it. A sectional door needs clear space above the opening for its curved track; a roller door needs very little, which is why roller doors remain the right answer on so many older Perth houses with low lintels. Beyond that, sectional doors offer more finish options and better insulation, roller doors are simpler and cost less to maintain, and in the coastal belt the material and coating matter more than the type.

Which doors last longest near the coast?

Near the ocean the finish and the fixings decide the door's life more than the brand does. Salt attacks fasteners, spring ends and the inside of a curtain long before the visible face shows anything, so a door specified for a coastal address with appropriate coatings and fixings can outlast a standard door by many years in the same driveway. It is a genuine specification difference, not an upsell — and it is one we deliberately do not recommend for an inland address that does not need it.

Can you install a door I've bought myself?

In most cases yes, and we will tell you before you buy if what you are looking at will not suit your opening. The most common problem with an owner-supplied door is that it was chosen on width and colour without checking headroom, side room or backroom, and it physically cannot be fitted. A five-minute conversation before the purchase saves that outcome.

Installation & Replacement — what customers say

Replaced the tired old door on a heritage frontage. They actually understood the character controls and showed me what would and wouldn't get past them, which the first two mobs I called did not.
Sarah L. Subiaco
Measured the opening properly and found the jamb had gone soft at the bottom — which the previous quote hadn't mentioned at all. Sorted it before the new door went on rather than bolting to rotten timber.
Peter M. Innaloo
Two streets back from the beach and they specified the fixings and finish accordingly, then told me plainly that the same spec would be a waste of money at my sister's place inland. First time anyone's talked me out of spending more.
